Hello Piedmont Neighborhood Association Members and Friends!
Fall is the perfect time to plant trees in the Pacific NW. Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry has nearly 1,000 trees to give away for free! Trees provide essential services like cleaning the air we breathe, keeping us cool during the hot summer months, blocking noise, and improving our mental and physical health.
They offer large native evergreens, heat-tolerant trees for hotter summers, flowering trees, nut-bearing, and trees rich with autumn color! Check out the species they are giving away this year.
You’re eligible if:
- The trees will be planted at an address within Portland city limits.
- The trees can be planted in the front, side or backyard. They cannot be used as street trees (the space between the curb and the sidewalk).
- You will allow Urban Forestry to check on your tree during the summer as part of a study.

Let’s deepen our roots by planting beautiful trees that make our neighborhood feel like home—for us and for generations to come.
