Ozark Park Spring Clean-Up Day, Sat., June 7, 10a-3p

Location: Triangular strip of land between Missouri St & the I-5 sound wall, from Rosa Parks Way to Dekum St

Did you know the grassy triangle between Missouri Street and the I-5 sound wall is affectionately known as Ozark Park?  Though not officially designated as a park, this ODOT-owned public land has been lovingly maintained by neighbor Paul Nist since 2021 through an adopt-a-landscape permit.

Over the years, Paul and others have put in much effort—building garden boxes, removing trash and mowing the large meadow-like space—but they’ve faced major challenges: no water access, illegal dumping, and safety concerns from encampments and drug activity.  Now, with support from the community and the Piedmont Neighborhood Association (PNA), there’s a renewed push to reimagine Ozark Park as a safe, lower-maintenance, and beautiful neighborhood green space.

👨‍🌾 Join our hands-on Ozark Park Clean-Up Day: June 7:

We’ll mow, trim hawthorn bushes, and clean up trash.  It’s a great chance to see the site up-close and start imagining what it could be.

Please bring:

  • Garden tools: electric trimmers, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, chippers (if available)
  • Protective gear: gloves, long sleeves, long pants, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen

🧩 What’s Next?

In the days following the cleanup, PNA will host a Zoom meeting (recorded for later viewing) to discuss ideas for the future of the space.  This is your chance to share input and help shape a shared vision for Ozark Park.  If you’d like to attend the Zoom meeting, please provide your email address to Molly McDade mollzombiekilla@gmail.com.

Let’s roll up our sleeves and make something great together—see you June 7!
