Board of Directors – At-Large Positions
NECN is seeking people to join the board of directors. Elections are on September 17th at 6:30pm at the NECN office / Zoom. The office is located at: 4815 NE 7th Ave. Portland, OR 97211.
NECN was founded in 1974 as part of the Model Cities Program and has earned a reputation as a pillar of the Northeast Portland community and operates as an independent nonprofit organization. The organization comprises 28 neighborhoods in the North and Northeast Portland and is an incubator of civic action and by connecting residents with grassroots organizations, like-minded individuals and local policy makers to effect change in their communities. We believe a city is more than the sum of its parts and we strive to make those parts whole.
The mission of NECN is to foster healthy communities by engaging citizens to become directly involved in determining how their neighborhood evolves, and giving them the tools to have their voices heard by policy makers and the public at large. We believe in the power of every citizen, in every community, to create the world they want to live in, one neighborhood at a time.
To be eligible you must live, own property or a business, or work in District 2 (the same boundaries that are used for City Council elections). We are open to people with any level of experience. An orientation and ongoing training will be provided for board members. Terms are one year. Typically elections are held in June (this year is an outlier because of the transition).
Workload for board members: 1-2 meetings per month, could be more if you are on a committee. Meetings are usually 1.5-2 hours long.
