COME HELP US SAVE ROSEMONT COURT!
Back in 2021, due to an outbreak of Legionnaires’ Disease, the historic Rosemont Court at 597 N Dekum St with affordable Senior Housing was closed, and all the residents were temporarily relocated into alternative housing. After three years, the owner, non-profit NW Housing Alternatives (NHA), can no longer afford to carry the costs of owning a vacant 100-unit apartment building. And the public funders have refused to grant adequate funds needed to re-open the building, so regrettably, NHA has announced their intention to sell the property.
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS!
Fortunately, the Piedmont Neighborhood Association and others were recently able to get Multnomah County to finalize long-term extensions of the housing vouchers for all those former residents who were relocated. However, the fate of Rosemont Court, potentially under new owners, is now very uncertain, so let your opinion be heard by attending this public meeting!
This public meeting is an opportunity for the many near-by neighbors and former residents to hear NHA’s rationale for the sale, to ask them questions and voice their concerns. We’ll then discuss our next steps to Save Rosemont Court.
Here is a recent Op-ed in the Oregonian with a spot-on perspective on this issue.
