Jan 10th Update:
Attention: This event has been cancelled. Please see the latest update post on Rosemont Court.
Hello Piedmont Neighborhood Association Members,
Your Save Rosemont Court Committee* has been busy during the past several weeks.
After a couple of meetings with NW Housing Alternatives (owner of RC) and the PNA, we have agreed to attend and plead our case at the next weekly meeting of the Multnomah County Commissioners. I and Natalie Thompson (NHA’s Director of Projects and Diversity) will each make a three-minute (max) address to the Commissioners during the public testimony segment that precedes their main meeting on:
Thursday January 11th that starts at 9:30am
in the Multnomah Building at 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd. in Boardroom 100
(wheelchair accessible)
The focus of my presentation will be two key issues, I will ask the Commissioners to:
- Urgently provide long-term rental assistance to replace the temporary rental assistance (that’s expiring) for the former Rosemont Court residents who need it.
- Prioritize the assistance for the former residents who will need help to return to RC, whenever it re-opens.
Natalie Thompson (NHA) will then present additional specifics during her three minutes.
We’d really like to present a strong showing of support from PNA members and other allies for our proposals. As you know: there is strength in numbers—particularly, in an election year. I will be sure to acknowledge the Public support for our proposals by former residents in attendance as well as the many concerned residents of the PNA.
Thank you,
Don Robinson

* As members of the PNA, we’re very concerned about the plight of the elderly residents who were displaced 2 years ago from their homes at Rosemont Court in the Piedmont Neighborhood of inner N/NE Portland due to an outbreak of Legionnaires Disease. When relocated to alternative housing, they were provided 24 months of temporary rent assistance by the County. Well, it’s been two years. Knowing their rent assistance is coming to an end, many of the former residents have begun to share their growing distress over their uncertain living situation, as some have recently received eviction notices. PNA learned recently that a request for long-term rental assistance for the former residents has yet to be finalized; hence, our call for action to fix that problem.
