Join us on Saturday, April 6th, from 10 am – 12 pm to help Piedmont get rid of Tree of Heaven! We’ll be meeting at the Peninsula Park Community Center at 10 am. For more information and to sign up, please email rkaria@piedmontemerald.com.
Your Piedmont Neighborhood Tree Team, and the North Portland Tree Coalition, are working to identify and remove Tree of Heaven across North Portland. On January 26, we conducted an inventory in Piedmont, surveying 30 blocks and finding 32 clusters of Tree-of-Heaven (including 16 large trees) on 21 different properties. On April 6th, we’ll be helping residents remove smaller Tree of Heaven specimens from their properties.
Tree of Heaven is an invasive plant that grows quickly, is difficult to eradicate, and can damage foundations, sewers, and sidewalks. This tree also damages natural habitats and crowds out our native plants. For more info, see www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/article/504479
The North Portland Tree Coalition is a group of North Portland neighborhood Tree Teams who care about and for the trees making up the canopy in North Portland. This link has more information: www.portlandoregon.gov/parks/74104
