>Portland Fruit Tree Project is a small non-profit organization based in Northeast Portland. They organize groups of volunteers to harvest and care for fruit trees, around the city, that would otherwise not be harvested or cared for. In 2009, they organized 30 harvesting parties through which they harvested almost 15,000 lbs of fruit. Half of the fruit harvested gets donated to a local food bank and the other half gets divided amongst the volunteers who come out and pick with them.
Lots of opportunities to get involved and enjoy the bounty. Check them out.
